Vanessa Trump said Friday that recent medical testing detected no remaining breast cancer, months after she was first diagnosed in April. "They came back clear, so I'm finally cancer-free," the 48-year-old said in a short video posted to the Instagram account of her daughter, Kai Trump. She has five children with Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of President Donald Trump.
She made the diagnosis public in May, posting on social media at the time that she had undergone surgery and was building a treatment plan with her medical team. In the Friday clip, she confirmed that April marked the point of her initial diagnosis.
Kai Trump, 19, said in the caption that the short video previews a longer YouTube release scheduled for Saturday. That conversation includes her mother and Dr. Nicole Saphier, and covers breast cancer awareness, prevention, and early detection. "October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about early detection, education, and support for those affected by breast cancer," she wrote. The post has drawn more than 20,000 likes and hundreds of comments, including from singer and media personality Mary Millben.
Vanessa Trump separated from Trump Jr. in 2018. Last year, she announced that she had begun dating US pro golfer Tiger Woods.
The American Cancer Society estimates that about 1 in 8 women in the US, or 13%, will develop breast cancer. The group also reports that breast cancer accounts for 30% of all new female cancers diagnosed each year. Surgery cures most breast cancers; where disease remains, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and endocrine therapy can lower long-term risk. The longer video is scheduled for release Saturday.
