The Premier League title race has narrowed to a dead heat between two clubs. On Saturday, Arsenal defeated Everton 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium in heavy rain. This result coincided with Manchester City's first defeat of the season, leveling the standings at the summit.

Both teams now hold 21 points after eight games. The gap between the leaders has vanished. City dropped three points when they fell 2-1 at Aston Villa. Arsenal capitalized on the slip-up to claim the top spot, at least temporarily.

Arsenal found an early goal in the seventh minute. Martin Odegaard delivered a corner that Jordan Pickford initially saved. The ball rebounded to Ezri Konsa, who tapped it in from close range. This marked Konsa's first goal for the club. It was also Arsenal's first set-piece goal since May, breaking a 13-game drought in all competitions.

The second goal arrived in the 68th minute. Ben White, playing his 200th game for the club, crossed to the far post. Gabriel headed the ball into the net on his 200th Premier League appearance. Everton remains in ninth place following the loss.

At Villa Park, Nicolas Jackson scored twice for Aston Villa. He put the hosts ahead in the sixth minute after a turnover by John McGinn. Erling Haaland equalized for City after halftime with a header from a free kick. Jackson restored Villa's lead in the 60th minute, finishing under goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. The victory moved Unai Emery's side to sixth place with 11 points.

City faces an off-field challenge while on the pitch. An independent commission found the club committed 114 breaches of financial rules. The team is currently appealing the decision. Jackson noted that the team is focusing on playing one game at a time despite the situation.

In other results, Tottenham Hotspur beat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge. This was Chelsea's second league loss at home in 36 years. Mike Penders own-goal and a late strike by Mathys Tel sealed the win for Spurs, who moved to 12th. Fulham beat Coventry City 1-0, with Oscar Bobb scoring the winner in the 80th minute.
