Trump Ordered to Testify in BBC Case as 21 Million Vote Early
Military build-up in the Middle East coincides with a surge in early voting and rising grocery costs ahead of November 3.

Americans voting early are facing a backdrop of rising grocery prices and military activity near the Middle East. Ground beef hit $6.79 per pound last month, a figure that reflects an 85 percent increase over the past decade. This cost pressure lands as nearly 21 million voters have already cast ballots, well ahead of the November 3 election date.
The University of Florida’s Election Lab reported that this total climbed by roughly 2 million votes in a single day. The pace in key battleground states exceeds that of the previous midterm cycle. However, analysts caution that early voting habits vary by party. Democrats typically vote early, while Republicans often wait until Election Day. Therefore, the current lead in early ballots does not necessarily predict the final outcome.
In Washington, a federal judge in California is limiting pre-election field operations by the Department of Homeland Security. The agency claims these efforts identify noncitizens who allegedly voted illegally in nine states. Simultaneously, a federal magistrate judge ordered President Donald Trump to sit for a deposition in his $10 billion defamation lawsuit against the BBC. The case involves a 2024 broadcast that Trump argues edited his January 6 speech to imply he incited violence.
The BBC is seeking to understand Trump’s state of mind during that speech and how he has profited since returning to the White House. Trump previously cited national importance to cancel a scheduled deposition and proposed January instead. The judge ruled he must comply with court rules or face sanctions. The network argues that more than 200 defendants in related January 6 cases said the speech motivated their actions.
Military preparations are intensifying as the election approaches. The United States is dispatching a third aircraft carrier to the Middle East. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth recently visited Israel to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Officials briefed on the matter indicate that the U.S. and Israel are preparing for a potential strike on Iran after the midterms.
President Trump is expected to weigh military action after voters go to the polls. This timing aims to prevent a spike in oil prices before Election Day. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Iran is ready for both diplomacy and war. Tehran is demanding formal control of the Strait of Hormuz and the withdrawal of U.S. troops from the region.
Domestically, the cost of living remains a focal point. While eggs dropped to $2.27 per dozen after peaking at $6.23 in March 2025, butter averaged $3.96 in September. Coffee prices remain 44 percent higher than two years ago, despite the removal of tariffs on the product. These figures reflect the ongoing economic strain caused by labor costs, tariffs, and energy prices tied to the conflict with Iran.
