A Russian jet-powered drone struck a platform at a railway station in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro on 29 October, killing 13 people and wounding at least five others, according to regional and national officials.

The strike hit one of the platforms beside which train No. 866 from Dnipro to Zaporizhzhia was standing at the time, the state railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia said. The company confirmed that the station was attacked with a jet drone.

Oleksandr Hanzha, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Military Administration, first reported that Russian forces had hit a transport infrastructure facility and that people had been hurt. He later updated the toll to 13 dead. Medics are treating at least five injured people.

Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov gave a fuller picture of what was hit. He said a drone struck a civilian electric train. "Dnipro suffered a tragedy. A drone hit a civilian electric train. Many people have been killed. A lot have been injured," he said.

Filatov also objected to the way such attacks are commonly described. He urged officials and commentators not to label them "attacks on infrastructure facilities." In his words: "This is a genocidal war. Have the guts to say things as they are."

Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, the CEO of Ukrzaliznytsia, said an air-raid warning had been issued before the strike. Even so, a significant number of people were on the platform when the drone hit. "Early reports indicate that many were killed and injured," he said.

Elsewhere in the region, a 15-year-old girl was injured in a separate Russian attack on the city of Pavlohrad in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.
