Latvia’s National Armed Forces confirmed on Saturday that they have located the debris of a drone that landed on its territory. The wreckage was found in the Alūksne district, ending a search that had been suspended earlier this month.

The military estimates the unmanned aerial vehicle entered Latvian airspace on October 18. Residents first noticed the incident when they heard a sound resembling an explosion. Officials from the armed forces and the State Police began a joint search for a crash site immediately after the report. They halted operations after two days, citing a lack of sufficient data to determine the nature of the object.

The discovery follows a parallel event in Lithuania on the same day. Debris from a suspected drone was recovered in the village of Juodžionys in the Pasvalys district. Lithuanian authorities stated the drone entered their airspace from Poland. Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius declared that the aircraft contained explosives.

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhii Tykhyi attributed the Lithuanian incident to Russian electronic warfare measures. He said Kyiv expressed regret over the event. Latvia is currently conducting an internal review to assess how its own incident unfolded.

The Latvian military stated that no civilians were injured in the crash. Officials confirmed that civilian infrastructure remained undamaged. They have identified no further threats to the area. An investigation into the specific circumstances of the Latvian event is ongoing.
