A court in eastern Ukraine has ordered the Russian state to pay a Lviv-area agricultural firm for sunflower seeds left behind when its storage site fell under occupation.

The Commercial Court of Luhansk Oblast ruled that Russia must transfer 65.36 million hryvnia, about US$1.6 million, to Oliiar, a company registered in Pustomyty, Lviv Oblast. The sum was set using an expert valuation. Russia is represented in the case by its Ministry of Justice. The court said Oliiar supplied conclusive evidence tying the loss to Russia's armed aggression.

Oliiar contracted in October 2021 to buy 4,700 tonnes of sunflower seeds from Prydniprovske Agrarian Company LLC and placed the crop with Svatove-Ahro LLC for storage. The supplier moved the full order to a Svatove warehouse. Svatove-Ahro shipped 2,592 tonnes onward by 24 February 2022, leaving 2,107 tonnes on site. Russian armed groups took the warehouse after the full-scale invasion began, and Oliiar did not get that portion back.

Iryna Zalizna is listed as Oliiar's founder, and Iryna Podoba as its director.

The judgment is the second of its kind from the same court. It previously ordered Russia to pay 51.67 million hryvnia, about US$1.25 million, to Trading House Agrokhim LLC over property lost in Svatove and Kakhovka.

The court's ruling did not specify when payment is due.
